There's a misconception that Labrador Retrievers are from Great Britain, but truth be told Labrador Retrievers actually originated in Newfoundland, Canada back in the 1830's. It was there in Newfoundland that Labs were used by the fishermen to retrieve fishing nets; the fishermen referred to these canines as the "small water dog."
